A detailed restoration history accompanies the yacht, ensuring its next steward will appreciate the touch of history they are set to navigate.

For the sailing connoisseur keen on reliving the grandeur of yesteryears, Galathea presents not just a yacht, but a legacy to carry forward.

Enderlein's mahogany racer

Between the years of 1964 and 1968, Storebro Bruks AB in Sweden produced around 70 of the distinguished Havsörnen II class sailboats. Galathea, completed in 1966, was the eleventh yacht in this prestigious line.

Admired for her sleek and graceful design, Galathea is distinguished by a long saloon set beneath a roof adorned with four windows and three distinctive Dorade vents. Her elegant stern tapers sharply near the rudder, while her robust, slanted bow projects strength and seaworthiness.

The vessel's hull, carvel-constructed from Honduras mahogany, is complemented by oak keel timbers and bows, with a teak deck laid atop a mahogany plywood subdeck. A well-designed long fin keel provides stability for confident sailing, deriving its primary support from near the mast's base.

The Galathea bears a storied past, initially commissioned by her illustrious designer, Olle Enderlein – Sweden's most iconic and prolific yacht designer. Enderlein himself piloted the yacht from 1967 to 1968, primarily using her as a racing vessel, and even integrated some custom features to enhance her competitiveness. She boasts a higher-than- typical mast, fortified by special steel supports at the junction between the mast and the deck, along with additional ballast to strengthen her keel.*

In 1966, under Enderlein's adept hand, Galathea triumphed in the renowned Royal Ocean Racing Club's Class III, also claiming victory in the celebrated Lidingö Runt race, securing the esteemed Lidingö Pokal for her skipper.

Since its time with Enderlein, Galathea has been cherished by four subsequent owners. Having once been a fixture in Swedish waters, she voyaged to her current berth in Finland in 2011, ready to write the next chapter in her venerable history.

*In Ingrid Kaiser's book "Vackra båtar seglar väl!" Olle Enderlein’s work history and the boats he designed are extensively presented. The book also tells about Galathea.

Spaciousness, comfort and seaworthiness

Three main things were considered in the design: spaciousness, comfort and seaworthiness – every element crafted to inspire confidence and relaxation on the open sea.

The superstructure and the cockpit are both constructed from mahogany. The cockpit is very spacious. Thanks to the U-shaped seating tray, a large mahogany table can be installed in the middle of the port, at which six people can have dinner. And afte, on the two-meter-long benches even a taller sailor can take a nap if needed.

There is plenty of room for equipment under the seats as well as under the hatch in the back ensuring a clutter-free deck space. Easily accessible engine control panel is located on the port side.

The boat's steering mechanism is a solid tiller, centrally mounted for balanced handling. Sail adjustments are made through an arrangement of three winches, with the noteworthy inclusion of an original bronze winch situated at the stern – a classic feature perfectly suited for managing the spinnaker.

The mast is made from resilient spruce, designed with a rectangular profile and a top-head setup featuring a single pair of spreaders. The mast's foundation is a sturdy steel stand securely fixed to the deck, and it's fully supported by triads of stays on either side, as well as the critical fore- and headstays.

The boat was a planned family boat for sailors with high pretensions. Spacious and well fitted saloon with four berths, large pantry and dinette.

The interior is made of mahogany and the floorboards are teak. The cabin of the boat is special. The U-shaped sofa on the starboard side creates a sense of space and the sofa can also be used as a comfortable sleeping berth. There is an adjustable lift table in the middle, which is foldable and also suspended on a gimbal.

Dinette, the pantry is located on the port side and space is reserved for a gas stove, a sink and a refrigerator, as well as a clothes rack. Several drawers and drawers are reserved for dishes and utensils.

Between the salon and forecastle lies a separate head, a compact but functional bathroom equipped with a washbasin and necessary amenities, providing privacy and ease of use. Along the corridor to starboard, a built-in wardrobe offers storage for clothing and personal items.

In the bow, a spacious double berth beckons, making clever use of the boat’s width and length to create a snug and restful space (approx. W 2.0m, L 1.9m). The deck is easily reached by a hatch from the berth.

The ventilation of the interior is arranged with the help of three vents. The first one is located in the forward saloon and the other two in the intermediate space.

Recently Galathea has been equipped with a new teak deck (2021), new sails (2019), a new electrical system, a heater, a sprayhood and other deck equipment.

The current owner has taken care of the boat meticulously. In the last three years alone the boat's teak deck has been completely renewed and all the superstructure’s mahogany parts (coach roof and cockpit) have been cleaned, stained and varnished. In addition, the both sides of the hull have been painted (2024) and also the underwater parts of the hull have been stripped, impregnated and painted with Werdol-primer, Hempel-primer and 2 x anti-fouling paint (autumn 2023 right, autumn 2024 left). The restoration history is detailed later in the brochure.

Havsörnen 2, Galathea, is truly something special. If you dream of sailing in style, you should take a closer look at this sailboat. During the summer of 2024, the boat will sail in the archipelago of Finland and Sweden. You are welcome to visit at one of the ports on the way.
