The victory of the Schooner America over the Best of British in 1851, set in motion a contest in sailing that exists to this day, the America's Cup.The race around the Isle of Wight in England on September 22 1851 resulted in the Birth of a Legend. The owners of the yacht 'America' were awarded a silver trophy and returned to America. It's that silver Cup that has driven contestants to huge lengths to win it.
